Privacy Policy
Last updated October 22, 2026
Effective October 2, 2026.
AutoCut is an iPhone app made by Timothy White ("we", "us"). This policy explains what AutoCut collects, why, who processes it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your video never leaves your iPhone. Editing and exporting happen on your device.
- If you turn on AI editing, only the audio of a take (and, for takes recorded with AutoCut's teleprompter, the script you read) is sent to work out the cut.
- When you choose to translate captions, make short clips or make YouTube chapters, only the caption text is sent, never audio or video.
- Audio, scripts and caption text are deleted as soon as the result is ready.
- Your content is never used to train AI models and never shared with other users.
What stays on your iPhone
Your videos, recordings, projects, edits, captions, styles and exports are stored only on your iPhone. AutoCut does its cutting, captions, zooms, audio cleanup and rendering on the device. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, AutoCut names new videos using Apple's on-device language model; the words stay on your iPhone. Deleting a project, or the app, removes them.
What we collect
- Account: when you sign in with Apple we receive a stable account identifier from Apple. If you choose to share it, Apple may also give us your email or a private relay address. We use it only to run your account.
- Analysis audio (only with AI editing on): for each video you edit, a compressed copy of its audio track (no video) is uploaded, together with the video's length and a random project identifier. Video names and other project details are not uploaded.
- Teleprompter script (only with AI editing on): if you record a take with AutoCut's teleprompter, the script you read is sent with that take's audio, so the cut can follow what you meant to say. Scripts you only keep in the teleprompter aren't uploaded.
- Transcript and edit decisions: our servers turn that audio into a word-by-word transcript, then decide which words, pauses and repeated takes to cut. Your iPhone downloads the result and applies it.
- Caption text (only when you use these tools, with AI editing on): when you translate captions, make short clips or make YouTube chapters, the words of your captions (with their timing for clips and chapters) are sent so the AI can translate them or suggest where clips and chapters start. No audio or video is sent, and the text isn't stored.
- Feedback you send: if you use Help → Send feedback, or add a note after rating AutoCut in the app, we receive your message, the star rating if you gave one, an email address only if you choose to add one for a reply, and your app version, iOS version and iPhone model. If you're signed in, it's linked to your account. It's stored on our servers and emailed to our support inbox. It never includes your videos. A star rating you don't send with a note stays on your iPhone; rating AutoCut on the App Store is handled by Apple.
- Subscription records: if you subscribe, we receive Apple's signed record of the purchase (product, dates, trial status, renewal status) so we can unlock Pro features and apply plan limits. We never see your payment details.
- Usage counts: the number and length of analyses you run, and how many translations, clip and chapter suggestions you ask for each day, to enforce plan and daily limits.
- Security logs: short-lived technical records such as request times and error codes, used to keep the service working and prevent abuse. To limit spam, feedback sent while signed out is rate limited using a salted, one-way hash of your network address, never the address itself. Logs don't contain your audio, scripts, transcripts or video.
- Website questions: if you submit our contact form, we store your name, email address and question securely in Lovable Cloud to handle your request.
AutoCut doesn't use advertising or analytics SDKs, and doesn't access your contacts, location or other apps. The camera and microphone are used only to record your takes. AutoCut uses your photo library to import the videos you choose and save your exports. If you use Storage → Free up space, AutoCut removes its own copy of an exported video and, when you open that project again, asks to read your photo library so it can fetch that one video back. This happens on your iPhone; nothing from your photo library is uploaded.
AI editing and who processes your data
AI editing is optional. AutoCut asks before turning it on, and you can turn it off at any time in the menu. With it off, AutoCut edits on your iPhone only and nothing about your videos is uploaded.
With it on, your analysis audio, teleprompter script, transcript and the caption text you choose to send are processed by these service providers on our behalf:
- Supabase: hosts the app's database, sign-in and temporary audio storage.
- OpenRouter: routes requests to the AI models below. We use zero-data-retention routing, which means providers that don't store your requests and don't use them for training.
- Microsoft: an AI speech model turns the audio into a transcript.
- AssemblyAI: a second AI speech model, used only when the first one can't transcribe a take.
- Anthropic: an AI language model reads the transcript (and script, if any) and suggests what to cut. It also translates captions and suggests short clips and chapters when you ask.
- Resend delivers the in-app feedback you send to our support inbox.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple and App Store payments.
These providers process data only to provide their service to us. Your content is never used to train AI models, by us or by them. Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where these providers operate.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, show ads, track you across other apps or websites, or use your content to train AI.
How long we keep it
- Analysis audio: deleted as soon as the analysis finishes or fails.
- Teleprompter scripts: deleted as soon as the analysis finishes or fails, and within a day in any case.
- Transcripts: deleted 30 days after the analysis finishes, or straight away when you delete the project or your account.
- Caption text: processed only to provide the translation, clip suggestions or chapters you request, and not stored.
- In-app feedback: kept as long as needed to handle your feedback. Feedback linked to your account is deleted when you delete your account. Feedback sent while signed out is not automatically deleted; you can request its deletion through the question form below.
- Edit decisions: kept until you delete the project or your account.
- Usage counts: kept until you delete your account.
- Subscription records: kept while your account exists, and afterwards only as long as needed for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons.
- Security logs: deleted within a few days.
Your choices and rights
- Turn off AI editing: Menu → AI editing.
- Delete your account: Menu → your account → Delete account. This deletes everything AutoCut stores on its servers for you and revokes AutoCut's Sign in with Apple access. You can also request deletion through the question form below.
- Photo library access: manage AutoCut's Photos permission in your iPhone Settings. Recovery of a video after using Free up space requires permission to read that video from your photo library.
- Access or correct: submit a request through the question form below and we'll respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, such as to access, port, correct, delete or object to processing of your data, and to complain to a data protection authority. We process your data to provide the service you asked for (contract), with your consent for AI editing, and for our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Each account can reach only its own records, and audio is kept in private storage that only you and our servers can access.
Children
AutoCut isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, contact us through the question form below and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app before any change that significantly affects how your data is used.
